Josh Butler, an older player for an undrafted free agent, went undrafted after his senior season at Michigan State in 2019. He didn’t secure a team spot until joining the Michigan Panthers of the UFL in 2023, eventually getting a chance with the Dallas Cowboys at their training camp last year. Butler is also a bit of a celebrity with 3.3 million TikTok followers and is a passionate dog lover.
On the field, Butler has shown impressive skills. In last year’s preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders, he led the team in tackles and defended two passes. His performance against Cooper Rush on Friday was stellar; he effectively stayed between the ball and the receiver, preventing Racey McMath from disrupting the play. Butler needs to maintain this strong mindset, hoping it will carry over to his upcoming preseason game against the Rams. His play as an undrafted cornerback has been excellent.
